FMI Achievements

The FMI has delivered many tangible outputs in the first year of operation.

These include:

  • a new high pressure single-phase calibration facility being built in Scotland, completion due Sept 2015
  • the commencement of a new flow measurement MRes (Masters by Research) and EngD programme, and a number of sponsored PhDs
  • a capability statement produced detailing flow measurement facilities at world-leading universities
  • a vision for Flow Measurement and the development of future operating models for FMI
  • the development of an evidence-based gap analysis, and corresponding competency matrix, for skills from technician to professional
  • the submission of a proposal for a collaborative £15m World Centre of Excellence in Flow Measurement and Fluid Mechanics, with anticipated commencement within 6 months
  • the new flow measurement conference, held in early July 2015, now scheduled to be an annual event
  • a unique collaboration formed between 4 universities, and subsequent £1.2m application made to EPSRC funding for flow measurement research
